Welcome
This is my fourteenth year of teaching in the Clark County School
District, and my twenty-first year in public education. In addition
to teaching in Las Vegas, I have also taught in Japan, Texas,
and Minnesota.
This year I am teaching photography and broadcast journalism here at the Southwest Career and Technical Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is our first year with seniors, and the first year we have offered photography. I am very excited to be teaching photography this year, as I have been involved with photography in some format for over forty years now. I have had my own studio, served as a photographer in the U.S. Navy, and have worked in retail as a camera store manager. I have taught many of the concepts of photographic composition in my broadcast and film studies classes, but teaching photography as a subject in and of itself is something I am happy to be doing.
Last year the broadcast journalism students had a respectable showing at the annual CCSD Broadcast Journalism Awards, bringing home four wins, including Best of Show. We got the year off to a good start by having Rout(e) 131, our morning news show, on the air on the second day of school. This year we're looking forward to producing more episodes of both the The Outlook, our video newsmagazine, and jumpCut, our web-inspired news and entertainment show. We'll also be doing some collaboration with The Southwest Shadow, our school newspaper.
